Getting to Know Us

Governance and Management of the Centre

Our Governing Body is made up of parents, staff and people in the community and local authority who are interested and want to help the Centre develop to meet the needs of children and families. The whole Governing Body meet 6 times in the year but between these meetings sub groups meet to discuss particular areas of the Centre’s work, for example finance, staffing and the curriculum. If you are interested in becoming a governor please talk to the Parental Involvement Officer or the Head teacher.

The day-to-day management of the Centre is the responsibility of the head teacher and senior staff. There is a Centre Development Plan, which is agreed by the Governing Body, and this helps the head teacher and staff to focus on particular developments each year.

Special Educational Needs

We are proud to be able to offer provision for children with special needs and are very lucky to have specialist staff who work with children from 3 months to 3 years and from 3 - 5 years.

We have a member of staff called the Special Education Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and all staff have had training to work with children for whom there are concerns. You will be consulted and included regarding any special provision your child may need.

Children with special educational needs play and learn alongside all the other children in the nursery. The specialist staff assess their needs and plan and carry out individual and small group activities as necessary. Each child has an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

The staff work closely with other professionals such as Education Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Physiotherapists. The staff also work closely with parents and carers, as well as professionals, to ensure that each child is supported appropriately when they leave the Centre, whether they go to their local Primary School or to special provision. This sometimes involves referral for a Formal Assessment and if this is the case you will be fully involved.

Parental Involvement

We really welcome parents and carers to be actively involved in the Centre. We want to talk with you about all the things we do and welcome your help and suggestions. Please remember that you can come into the rooms to join in, help with an activity or read a story at any time. We have parents on our Governing Body who play an important role in deciding the way in which the Centre develops. We produce newsletters regularly throughout the year to keep you informed of developments and events at the centre. Parents and carers can see copies of official documents such as curriculum policy documents, Ofsted reports and other policies. Please ask a member of staff should you wish to see any of them

Behaviour and Discipline

We have a No Smacking policy and will not tolerate bullying or discrimination. We have a special leaflet that helps us all to use a range of approaches to encourage children’s good behaviour. Any incidents in the Centre of bullying or discrimination are recorded and discussed with the adults and parents/carers of the children involved. If you have any concerns regarding your child please discuss them with your Pastoral worker or another member of staff.

We expect children to keep to the following simple rules when they are able to understand:-
please walk inside the Centre; please share and take turns; please be kind to others; please help to tidy up.

Staff Training

All members of staff attend Training Days and undertake a range of courses and conferences. This ensures that all staff are constantly developing their expertise. We involve Parents in our training whenever it is felt to be appropriate e.g. at our Annual Evaluation Day.

Health and Safety

The Centre’s Health and Safety Policy covers accidents, medicines, fire drill procedure, security, and safety and protection of children. If you wish to see this policy, please ask a member of staff. The Centre has two qualified first aiders.Centre play area

Children Learning English as a Second Language

The Centre receives additional funding to support children learning english. We enhance staffing in all rooms to ensure that this support will be given.

These are our aims:

  • That all children attending the Centre will have the opportunity to access all the facilities and resources available.
  • That the Centre will provide opportunities to promote Inclusion and Achievement for parents, carers and other users.
  • That the Centre will work in partnership with the local community, schools and relevant agencies to support Inclusion and Achievement.
  • That the Centre will monitor Inclusion and Achievement in all it’s policies and planning.
  • We will not tolerate any behaviour or practice that is discriminatory.

Complaints Procedure

Everyone who uses the Centre has the right to make a complaint about oppressive behaviour. All complaints will be investigated, recorded and treated seriously. Please ask for a copy of the Centre’s Complaints Procedure if you require any more information.

Child Protection Policy

Our aim is to fulfil our statutory duty to ensure that young children are protected from abuse. We will therefore discuss with parents any concerns about children’s well-being. Staff are all trained in child protection procedures and have the utmost regards for confidentiality.
