Our Vision

At Canterbury, children and their families are at the heart of an encouraging and challenging environment, where everyone recognises and celebrates differences, actively communicates the importance of learning and believes that everyone can achieve.

Services for Families

The main aim of the Family and Community Team is to provide a range of services to support families in bringing up their children.

We recognise that being a parent is not always easy and we believe that all parents and carers have the right to ask for and receive support without feeling guilty or embarrassed, or that they have failed.

We aim to provide a range of family support services which families living within our Centre reach can access at different times depending on need.

Such services include:

Stay & Play

Sessions are run twice weekly by trained staff for children under 5 years of age where they come and join in with fun activities and learn through play. We have a separate area set out within the room for non-mobile children to explore. It is a great opportunity for parents/carers to spend quality time with their child.

1:1 Family Support

We work together with families empowering them and giving them the confidence to get the most from family life, giving their children the best possible start. We aims to do this by completing a family outcome star with the family, this helps to identify any issues within the family. We then work together to plan a course of work to address the identified issues.

Debt Advice

This is a free advice service for parents with children under 5 years of age living in the Canterbury reach. Offering support with issues such as Debt/Benefits advice and appeals, Budgeting and grant applications.

Carers Group

This group offers an opportunity for parents to meet in a welcoming and social environment, to share experiences and knowledge and to talk to somebody who also understands the challenges of having a child with additional needs and the impact on the whole family.
